COMANDO MARE NOSTRUM
COMANDO MARE NOSTRUM
We are Mare Nostrum, a group of individuals linked to art and Sanlúcar de Barrameda. For years, we have been carrying out interventions in the streets to raise awareness among the local residents and visitors to these southern lands about the mistreatment of the marine natural environment, so closely linked to this city.
Plastics and various types of waste that end up in our waters are rescued for our interventions. We choose locations where their impact can be visible and set up our pieces there. These are usually installations where we mix plastics, bottles, and sheets of paper with classic works of art.
In our imagination, we envision a maritime dystopia: the beings of the future who dominate the earth are individuals who sustain their lives from the plastic waste that inhabits the sea.
We aim to spark reflection around art, our waste, and the sea. These are the three elements that structure our critique. We create using what destroys. And there, we pass the baton to those who observe, so that they may think, question, and draw conclusions.
