LA ESCAPADA

LA ESCAPADA

THE ESCAPE
On the white beam that runs across the house, there they were, the walkers, devoted to a purpose as vague as it was fascinating: keeping the balance of the home upright. That beam is not just support; it’s a path for the invisible, a straight line that traces duty and routine, like those endless highways crossing American deserts, the same ones we see in movies.

But one day, something happens. Is it a rebellion, an accident, a spark of awareness? Some walkers try to escape, leave the beam behind, to see what it feels like to step outside that perfect line. And it’s at that moment they realize what’s irreparable: by abandoning the path, they lose their characteristic white color and become multicolored, as if their essence stayed stuck to the structure. Others rush to help, some freeze at the sight of the scene, while the rebels remain trapped, suspended in a no-place, in that suspended moment between escape, failure, and fear.

Others, the bravest, or perhaps the most unconscious, manage to slip through the house, leaving traces of their existence in corners that were once foreign to them. The house is no longer the same; its order has cracked, the invisible has been seen. Now it breathes with those presences that roam it as if it were the first time. The vertigo of leaving the path, because, in the end, who hasn’t ever felt the temptation to abandon their own white beam?
